On Thursday 12th November 2015, the Intel Mini Scientist competition took place in St. Pius X G.N.S. The tension was palpable as the girls set up and eagerly awaited the arrival of the judges. Niall, Raja and Claire were the visiting judges. They spent time at each project, questioning the girls on their research, investigations, experiments and on the conclusions drawn from their studies. They were extremely impressed with the high standard of work and with the confidence shown by the girls as they talked about the individual scientific questions they were exploring.
The following were the winning projects:
- Ms. Fitzgerald – What fruits float on water and why? (Elena, Katherine)
- Ms. Daly – Is sport worth the effort? (Emily)
- Ms. Judge – Food perception (Maia, Anika, Lucy)
- Ms. Smith – What are Holograms? (Hannah)
The overall winner was Hannah, who will go on to represent our school in a further competition in December in Intel. Well done Hannah!
Congratulations to all of the girls!
Each participant received a goody bag and a certificate. We’re very proud of the beautiful plaque that the school received in recognition of the hard work and effort put in by all the students.
