Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths (STEM)

For the past few weeks, the St. Pius X girls have being putting together a Discovery Log, which is a culmination of all the work the school has done in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths, from Junior Infants up to 6th class.

The Log is broken into five areas –

  1. Science
  2. Technology
  3. Engineering
  4. Maths
  5. Showcase

It is a reflection of the children`s work throughout 2015/2016. It includes written accounts of scientific questions they have asked, investigated, researched and experimented on. It documents the conclusions drawn, as well as photos of the children working. It features the different live creatures they have observed and looked after, drawings and diagrams, PowerPoint Presentations, the Intel Mini Scientist competition, Science Week, Engineers Week and various trips to Bushy Park. It also includes Science visitors who visited our school – Declan Holmes (Science Ireland), Eric Dempsey (Bird Expert), Eamonn McDonagh (Engineer), Loraine Grant ( The Marine Institute) and lots, lots more.

The Log has been delivered to the Science Foundation, Ireland where it will be examined by experts to see if St. Pius X G.N.S. merits a plaque of Excellence in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths!

We have a very keen interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths in our school and we are very proud of the work in our Discovery Log.
