Yesterday we collected our Green School energy flag. The Green School committee have been working hard all year for this. There was an energy monitor in each classroom to remind others to conserve energy, we discussed Green School matters in meetings throughout the year, litter pickers picked up rubbish around the school, there was a Low Energy Day, we had a school slogan and ‘Flicker the Fairy’ energy mascot, there was a Sustainable Energy Workshop and we even wrote a Green Schools song.
We got the news that we were going to the Helix to represent the school to collect the flag with Ms. Judge and Ms. Doherty. We were so excited. When we arrived at the Helix pictures were taken of us with the Green School mascots. Shortly after we were called to our seats. We couldn’t wait to get our hands on our second green flag. There was lots of interesting speeches about how to make the world a greener place and how much greener Irish schools have become since starting Green Schools. We even got to Skype other Green School award ceremonies around the country and say hello. Next was the flag presentation. We hopped out of our seats when we were called and onto the stage we went. We shook hands with representatives from the government and county councils and were awarded our flag and certificate. We beamed with pride and joy, our second green flag Wahoo!!
Next year we’ll be working towards our water flag so watch this space!!
